Snapchat helps identify plant species and dog breeds

Snapchat will help users identify plant species and dog breeds. To do this, the social network introduced new features of augmented reality.

In the past few years, Snapchat has added augmented reality features that allow users to apply filters and interact with virtual objects. Now the company has introduced new features that provide users with more information when they point the camera at various objects around.

In addition to solving math problems and finding online links to products, users can now use scans to identify dog breeds, plant species, and food information.

Snapchat invests heavily in AR, including object recognition technology. Back in 2017, it was reported that the social network was working on a way to scan objects in the real world. Snapchat’s Scan Recognition feature appeared in 2019 at the Snap’s Partner Summit, a developer conference. This year Snap’s Partner Summit had to be moved online due to the coronavirus pandemic.

As noted in the company, the recognition of plants and dog breeds will appear in the application at the end of 2020. In addition, the social network promises a new “action bar” for Snapchat navigation, additions to original content and games, as well as functions for event organizers.

(function(d, s, id) {
var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s);
if (d.getElementById(id)) return;
js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id;
js.src = ‘https://connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v3.2';
fjs.parentNode.
